Google’s Updated 2-Step Verification Adds Location & Device Info

Google has introduced a significant enhancement to its 2-Step Verification feature, aiming to strengthen account protection with improved transparency during sign-in attempts. This update enhances the phone prompt mechanism used to verify logins on both Android and iOS devices.

Previously, when logging into a Google account, users received a vague prompt asking if they were trying to sign in. While this acted as a basic security layer, it lacked detail—leaving users uncertain about the legitimacy of the activity.

The new update addresses this by displaying specific information about the login attempt, including:

  • :green_circle: Location of the attempt (based on the IP address)
  • :green_circle: Time when the sign-in occurred
  • :green_circle: Device name or type used during the attempt

This makes it much easier to spot suspicious logins at a glance.

:mobile_phone: The update is compatible with both iOS and Android platforms. If you’re not seeing this added info yet, don’t worry—it’s being rolled out gradually and should be available to all users soon.
