  • Use a VPN
  • Use your smartphone as a mobile hotspot
  • Use a SSH Tunnel
  • Use Tor

Here are some quick tips for firewall like Kerio Control or Watch Guard HTTP proxy and access blocked websites.

1. Browsing on HTTPS connection

You just need to use secure connection (https version) is that website. It’s nothing but a secure connection where all data in that website will be encrypted so that you can browse without any restrictions.

For example if you want to visit YouTube then you need to visit https:// www.YouTube.com instead of http://www.YouTube.com

What if that site doesn’t have secure connection?

We all know the fact that most of the websites don’t have secure connection.

No need to worry about it.

You can use software like tor, Ultrasurf to bypass Linux firewall without using proxies.

TOR: Tor may work even if standard VPNs, proxies, and SSH tunnels won’t. Tor beat all content filter Tools and access blocked websites.

Also, Remember

They will be able to see that you have connected to a VPN, and some stats about the amount of data flow, but that’s about it.

However, be aware that VPNs themselves can be blocked in firewalls, and many corporate networks do block them, when they know about them.

In order for a computer to go online or connect to the internet. It has to reach through different network nodes.

In corporate network, firewall at the perimeter level will log all transactions happening and let’s say you are using VPN. For the VPN to create a tunnel between your computer and internet, it requires a mode of transportation, which is established by cables and routers.

Firewall acts as a security guard in this matter allowing you to go online. It will analyze the source and based on rules configured, connection is granted/denied

It also does not protect you from other logging. They could look at browser logs and temporary files on your computer, or could even be running remote screen monitoring or keylogging software - both of which are legal on a work computer if they are part of the employment contract (in most places).

Extras

In the local network is Kerio Control through which the distribution of access to sites for each IP computer and monitoring page visits. How to bypass it so that the History of visiting sites does not appear in Kerio? Configure VPN? How or where is it better to tune it? Or are there any other simple options?

Remember: when you are not on your lunch break, you are on company time and therefore they own that time of your daily schedule. They expect you to use it to their benefit. If you feel that you cannot do your job without access to a certain website, discuss it with your direct superior and let the administrative folks handle the request. Abide by the answer you receive.

To have the greatest chance of success, make the request respectfully, preferably in writing, and explain why it is crucial to use in regard to enhancing your productivity.

  • The most likely answer will be no but in my history of being involved in the decision regarding such requests, about 10 percent were approved. You never hear yes if you don’t ask, so you may as well see what happens. Be sure to assume no and don’t try to circumvent the corporate security while you await the decision, however.

Otherwise, the request will be rubber-stamped no and you will be rubber-stamped as insubordinate and a proven security risk and then fired.

Use your smartphone on your own cellular data connection and keep your personal traffic off your company network. Do not create a network loop to a laptop (e.g. connect both via company ethernet and personal wifi hotspot).

Depending on who you work for and their attitude to computer security, bypassing the firewall could range anywhere from “who cares?” to a federal offense with possible jail time.
