Is It Ethical to Have Children Amid Climate Change? 🌍

Summary:

  1. Generational Divide
A significant portion of U.S. adults aged 18 to 49 who choose not to have children cite environmental concerns, including climate change, as a major factor. This contrasts with older adults, indicating a growing awareness of climate issues.

  2. Impact on Children and Planet
The ethical dilemma revolves around the future quality of life for children in a climate-strained world, with concerns about clean air, water, and extreme weather. Additionally, climate change negatively affects reproduction and newborn health, adding to the complexity.

  3. Symbol of Hope and Change
Despite these concerns, having children can be seen as a symbol of hope and commitment to positive change. The act of parenthood reflects faith in the possibility of a better future and a dedication to addressing climate challenges.

Those promoting and pushing this no kid propaganda don’t apply it for themselves. They usually have many children themselves.

I remember this Israeli woman with a rigorous practice of Judaism who wrote an op-ed in a newspaper telling to non-jews that having children is bad for the planet while she conveniently “forgot” to say the fact she had many children (also raised in the rigorous practice of Judaism).

Here what I think. If you don’t want to have children, that’s fine.

But if you feel guilty only because of this kind of propaganda, you should understand that the people promoting this stuff don’t have your best interests at heart. So, if you want to have children, have them and don’t feel guilty.
