This guide introduces Downlodr — a free, open-source video downloader that uses the reliable yt-dlp engine but offers a modern, user-friendly interface. Unlike many competitors, it has no ads, no redirects, no registration, and supports bulk downloading across platforms. It’s built to be clean, efficient, and accessible for anyone.

Easy Step-by-Step Method

Step 1: Go to the official Downlodr website

Step 2: Download and install the app (Windows only, for now)

  • Follow installation instructions from the website.
  • App updates are available on GitHub, sometimes earlier than the main site (e.g., version 1.3.8).

Step 3: Open the app and paste your video URL

  • Copy any video link (e.g., YouTube, etc.) and paste it into the app.
  • A drop-down appears for selecting video/audio quality and format (e.g., 1080p MP4, MKV).

Step 4: Select desired quality and file format

  • Options include different resolutions and file containers.
  • Choose from available streams, and click to start downloading.

Step 5: Use bulk download if needed

  • Supports playlists and multiple links.
  • However, you may need to manually set format for each file.

Step 6: Monitor and manage your downloads

  • You can add items to a list but currently, there’s no automatic queue.
  • Start batches manually (e.g., 5 at a time) if needed.

Quick Tips (Optional)

  • Use the GitHub version for the latest features and fixes.
  • Playlist downloads work, but you may need to re-paste links for failed items.
  • Some users noticed download quality dropdown missing — updating to latest build usually fixes it.

Important Notes

  • Currently available for Windows only — macOS and Linux versions are planned.
  • No browser extensions yet (though suggested).
  • No queue or batch download manager (downloads are simultaneous).
  • Not optimized yet for livestream capturing or webinar downloading.
  • No restart or delete option for stuck downloads — reopening the app may clear them.
  • One song in a playlist may download as .mp4 even if others are .mp3.
