You’ve asked two things: Is the download safe, and why is an invitation needed if the download link exists?

1. Is the download link safe?

Yes. It is the official installer I downloaded after my waitlist invitation was approved. I uploaded that exact .exe file myself. It’s safe and shouldn’t be flagged by antivirus software.

2. Why is an invitation necessary?

The invitation activates the browser’s core AI features. I tested this with an alternate email account that did not have an invitation. Here’s what I found:

• With just the installer (no invite): You can install and use Comet like a normal web browser. However, all of its unique agentic AI features are disabled. It functions as a basic browser with Perplexity as the default search engine; essentially, a re-skinned version of Chrome.
• With an invitation: Your account is authorized, and all the advanced AI features are unlocked and work as intended.

In short: The installer gives you the application, but the invitation is what turns on its key features.
