Recently, Google updated the YouTube app to introduce an all-new voice-search feature. What makes this feature so handy is that it makes searching for content pretty simple especially when casting YouTube videos to a smart TV. Times when you are planning to watch an exciting flick but don’t know what will light up your show-time, this intuitive search feature can come into play really well. If you find it worth giving a shot, follow along as I show you how you can use YouTube’s new voice search feature when casting to a smart TV.

Use YouTube’s New Voice Search Feature on iPhone and Android

First things first, ensure that your devices are running the latest version of YouTube. The feature has been rolled out for both iOS ( of course iPadOS included) and Android. So, it doesn’t matter which of the two most popular mobile operating systems you are running, you can use this feature. With that said, let’s get started with the quick steps!

Note: The steps for both iOS and Android are the same. So, we have just shown Android’s screenshots.

  1. Open the YouTube app on your device.

  1. Now, tap on the Cast button at the top right corner of the screen.

Note: On your iOS device, a popup will appear from the bottom. Tap on YouTube on TV . Just in case you haven’t yet connected your device to the smart TV, tap on Link with TV code and then tap on Learn how to get a TV code .

  1. Next, launch the YouTube app on your connected Smart TV.

  2. Now, overlay with a voice search button will appear on the screen. Tap on the red microphone icon and then speak the phrase or word you wish to search. The search results will instantly appear on your Smart TV.

Note: A popup will appear on the screen saying, “Voice searches are saved in the TV’s search history and influence recommendations. To associate your activity only with your account, sign in to YouTube on TV. Tap on Close to proceed.
