How to choose the best ethical hacking course?

Many of us have a general idea of which field we want to pursue as a career. However, choosing the best course that can bring excellent job prospects is challenging. If you are reading this, it is clear what you are seeking – a bright future in ethical hacking. The only thing left is to select the best ethical hacking course. It would be best if you considered certain factors before opting for a course. For that, your individual preferences matter a lot while making the decision.

This blog will help you make the right choice by giving you specific tips on what to look for before joining any ethical hacking course.

Top 5 tips for choosing the right ethical hacking course

Keep these points in mind while you make a choice.

  1. Note down your interests

You must be curious about several topics of ethical hacking, such as different phases of ethical hacking, network sniffing, social engineering, IoT hacking, cryptography, or others. You need a course that serves all your queries well. Make a list of all the topics you are interested in and look for these in an ethical hacking training program. Check out the syllabus carefully, ensuring that it covers all the industry-demanded topics.

  1. Research – Look for perks

Use the internet to dive deep into the program you are interested in. Connect with experienced security professionals and ask them, ‘which one out of all the available ethical hacking certifications would be a great fit for me?’ Check out online reviews about your selected course. This step will let you know if the chosen certification is, in fact, the right choice.

Ensure that your chosen program offers more than mere theoretical knowledge. The industry is looking for professionals with hands-on experience. Attain a credential that can help you gain practical experience, even if you are a beginner. This process will also help you to understand what you’ll learn from the training.

  1. Verify the market value of the course

The market value of your certification can help you outperform in a pool of applicants. A credential that is in high demand or stands for skill validation is one you should opt for. Check whether your selected training program holds accreditation from acclaimed organizations.

For instance, Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH) is an ANSI (American National Standards Institute) accredited program. The United States Department of Defense (DoD) declared C|EH as one of the baseline programs needed to become a part of their Information Assurance (IA) workforce. Besides that, it is a GCT (GCHQ Certified Training) by the top British intelligence agency, GCHQ.

  1. Mode of training – Look for convenience

If you are a working professional and want to take up the course, then you should find training that best suits your convenience. You could have fixed office timings or other issues that make it difficult to attend classes at the scheduled time. In such cases, you need a course that is flexible that suits your needs.

  1. Consider the career prospects

Lastly, do not forget to look at the career prospects that your well-researched certification can bring in for you. Consider certain factors before making your choice – income, job security, work stress, and the scope of your training. It would help if you verified whether employers would be interested in your skills.

They kinda teach fundamentals before divin’ deep and preparing for the CompTIA PenTest+, the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) and any other ethical hacking certifications :relaxed:
